LAXATIVES

LAXATIVES:
Contraindications: Intestinal obstruction, abdominal pain of unknown etiology, acute surgical abdomen, cramps, nausea, vomiting or other symptoms of appendicitis.
Precautions: Prolonged use of laxative may result in serious loss of water and electrolytes (particularly potassium), muscular weakness and weight loss. Paralysis of the intestinal musculature followed by the dilation of the bowl and megacolon may occur.
Interactions: Concomitant administration of milk, antacids or cimetidine with bisa-codyl may cause the coating to dissolve prematurely resulting in gastric or duodenal stimulation.
Adverse effects: Excessive bowel activity.
